Body Of Nyssa Man Found In Brownlee Reservoir
By Debby SchoeninghThe body of a Nyssa man who had been missing since Sunday afternoon following a boating accident was found Tuesday. Steven Bauer, 48, was recovered following an extensive search by the Washington County Sheriff’s office, assisted by the Baker County Sheriff’s Department. Baker County Sheriff Mitch Southwick said the call for assistance came at about 2:49 p.m. on Sunday.
Southwick said Bauer’s body was found in Brownlee Reservoir about halfway between Huntington and Swedes Landing near Mountain Man Lodge on the Idaho side, close to where he and two others went into the water. Bauer had been fishing in his boat with his father Wilbur Bauer, 74 of Dundee, Ore., and his son, John 20, of Nyssa. Southwick said it’s unclear how Wilbur and John ended up in the water, as the boat did not capsize, but apparently Steven jumped in to assist them.
“Someone threw John and Wilbur floatation cushions,” said Southwick. “None of them were wearing lifejackets.”
