Anna Mildred ‘Millie’ Heizer a long time Baker City, Ore., resident died Aug. 21, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Services immediately after kissing her son good by.
Funeral services for Mrs. Heizer were held Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m. in the Coles Funeral Home. Mr. Larry Pearson officiated. Vault interment followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery. A reception followed the burial at Meadowbrook Place, 4000 Cedar St.
Millie was born in Colorado Springs, Colo., a daughter of J. F. and Alberta (Cox) Smith. She was the youngest of four children. When Millie was 2 years old her family moved to Payette, Idaho. She attended all her school years there and graduated from Payette High School. After high school she opened her own beauty shop. During this time she met Earl Heizer, her husband-to-be. They were married in Payette, Idaho, on Sept. 28, 1929. Earl and Millie were married for 68 years. They moved to Baker City in 1934. When Millie was young she car-hopped for A&W Drive In and worked at Woolworths. When Earl became manager of the PCA they traveled back and forth between the Baker City and Ontario offices. While in Ontario she worked at a jewelry store. After Earl retired, she helped clean and paint rentals owned by her son Bill. “I cleaned and painted, I loved doing it,” she said, until Bill took her paint brush away. She got caught on her ladder at 97 because her shrubs weren’t trimmed right. Millie was active in the Rebekah Lodge #8 and the Quail Ridge Bridge Assn. She loved mind games, bridge, pinochle, and scrabble and worked her cross word puzzles everyday. She also delivered Meals on Wheels for years.
Millie moved to Meadowbrook Place after a bad fall on Nov.1, 2006. She was so appreciative of the good care they gave her.
Survivors include her son, Dr. William F. Heizer and his wife Jean, Baker City, Ore.; granddaughters and their husbands, Dallas Kyriss and Steve of Lewiston, Idaho, Kelley Baker and Ric of Canby, Ore., and Wendy Ricks and Allan of Mesa, Ariz., Six great-grandchildren, two great great- grandchildren and a special niece Betty Rick of Pendleton, Ore., also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl W. Heizer, her parents, two brothers and a sister.

George Hiatt
(July 31, 1931 - Aug. 20, 2008)
George O. Hiatt, 77, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Services, after a short illness.
The memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, with Pastor Gordon Bond officiating. There will be a reception immediately following the service at the Baker City Elk’s Lodge. Private interment will be held at Salubria Cemetery in Cambridge, Idaho, at a later date.
George was born July 31, 1931, at the family farmhouse in Cambridge, Idaho, to George Wallace and Edith Sutton Hiatt. He was raised in several towns in Oregon and Idaho, graduating from McCall-Donnelly High School, and receiving his degree in Business Administration from Idaho State College.
He managed a lumberyard in Meridian, Idaho, before going to work for the city of Baker in 1962. He was hired as City Recorder and after 10 years was promoted to City Manager until his resignation effective Jan. 1, 1980.
George married Eva Crockett Colton on June 14, 1964, assuming responsibility for her five children.
He moved to Pistol River, Ore., in 1980, where he managed his mother-in-law’s ranch until his retirement in 1994. George and Eva then returned to Baker County, buying ranch property in Lower Keating Valley.
George’s hobbies and interests included gun collecting, wood working, boat building, ranching, horses, cattle and sheep, hiking and camping, kayaking, skiing and worldwide travel.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Eva; step-children, Linda Taylor and her husband Chuck of Ontario, Cinda Belozer and her husband Kevin of Gladstone, Tom Colton and his wife Julie of Union, Teri Colton and her husband Larry of Portland, Traci Colton of Baker City; brother, James Hiatt and his wife Teresa of Fort Myers, Fla.; nephew George Pat Hiatt and his wife Angie and their children Kim and George of Moscow, Idaho; numerous cousins, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents.

Kathryn Morgan

Kathryn Annabelle Morgan, 55 of Baker City, Ore., passed away Aug. 20, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A Celebration of Annabelle’s life - Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 2 p.m. at the Baker City Church of the Nazarene. Pastor John Privett officiated the service. Friends were invited to join the family for a dinner immediately following the service at the church.
A graveside service was held Thursday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m. in Prairie City, Ore.
Annabelle was born Nov. 9, 1952, in Prairie City, Ore., to William Franklin and Mary Alta (Till) Winegar. She was educated in Prairie City and was very involved in all school activities and enjoyed playing sports, especially volleyball while attending Prairie City High School. Annabelle also served as a princess on the Rodeo Court. She graduated from Prairie City High School in 1970.
Annabelle met Floyd Morgan in Baker City, Ore. They were married at the Baker City Church of the Nazarene March 28, 1987. Floyd and Annabelle made their home in Baker City where they raised their children Rollie, Nellie, Luke, and Kerbie.
Annabelle’s joy and passion for life has always been a blessing to her family and friends. She took great pleasure in creating things of beauty, as could be seen in the beautiful wedding cakes she baked and decorated, her flower arrangements, quilting, and a yard with flower beds that were the envy of her neighbors and family. She liked working side by side with Floyd on their ranch; working cattle, haying and doing all of the chores entailed in ranch life.
She loved being a grandmother and sharing with her grandchildren. They especially brought joy to her life during the difficult times.
Annabelle worked at Safeway, Baker City Floral, and with the 5-J school lunch program.
Survivors included her husband Floyd, children Rollie and Annie Stanbro, Nellie and Bryan Dalke, Luke and Amanda Morgan, and Kerbie Morgan; grandchildren Maggie Stanbro, Kaylee, Kaiden and Kale Dalke, Gretchen and Ethan Morgan all of Baker City; her mother, Mary Winegar; sisters Jane Winegar, Virginia (Ginner) Watterson, brothers Fred, Rod, George and Grant Winegar all of Grant County and Hank of Tempe, Ariz.; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Franklin Winegar and her sister, Anita Scull.

Linda Pifher
(July 17, 1950 - Aug. 19, 2008)
Linda “Umaw” Pifher, 58, passed away August 19, 2008, in her home in Baker City.
At the family’s request, no services will be held.
Linda was born July 17, 1950, to Opal Dee Davis and mother Norma Jean Davis in Prairie City. Linda was “Umaw” to her grandkids and friends. She was their number one fan and loved to watch them play sports. She loved to shoot traps with her son, Shea, and grandsons, Derek and Geoff White. She also loved to fish on the Snake River with granddaughter Sierra and daughter Nicole.
Linda was the life of any family gathering with her keen wit and humor. She loved the T.V. shows Forensic Files, Detective Stories, Court Case T.V., and loved to read. She was a great mother and a loving grandmother to many.
Linda worked at St. Elizabeth Care Center for many years. She went to Treasure Valley Community College in pursuit of her nursing degree. She finished her working career as a in-home health care provider. Linda relieved many families with her tender care, love and compassion.
Linda “Umaw” Pifher is survived by daughter, Nicole Howerton and husband, Jim, son Shea Maliwanki; step-daughter, Tammy Hunt and grandchildren, Derek, Sierra, Matt, Melissa and Deana; great-grandson, Hunter James Howerton; bother, Rick Davis and brother-in-law, Jim Edison; numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her father Opal Davis and mother Norma Davis, brother Roger Davis and sister Della Edison.
