Marjorie Joyce Dixon (Aug. 3, 1921 - Oct. 3, 2008)
Marjorie Joyce Dixon, 87, passed away Oct. 3, 2008, at Settlers’ Park. A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Community of Christ Church, 2428 Madison St., followed by an inurnment at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Pastor Kathi Bulthuis officiated. Friends were invited to join the family for a reception at the Community of Christ Church following the services. Marjorie “Joyce” Richerson was born Aug. 3, 1921, in Cleburne, Johnson Co., Texas, to John Paschal Richerson and Ivy Pauline (Gaby) Richerson. She worked for the railroad as a Teletype Operator before retiring in 1980, do to medical reasons. She was awarded Santa Fe Wire Chief during her career. On Nov. 5, 1987, she married Hugh V. “Lucky” Dixon in Baker City. She enjoyed Artex and Tri Chem paints, crossword puzzles and gardening. Joyce was a member of the Community of Christ Church and the Rebekahs Lodge. She is survived by her daughter Edith Carney of Baker City; 5 grandchildren: Kandi Bucher of Savannah, Mo., Donald Proffit of Hamilton, Mo., Ronald Proffit of Norfork, Va., Kenneth Proffit of Branson, Mo. and Jerry Proffit of St. Joseph, Mo.; and 28 great-grandchildren. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Hugh V. “Lucky”Dixon on Sept. 12, 1990. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in care of Gray’s West & Company Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR 97814.
‘Hank” McAdams (Aug. 12, 1930 - Oct. 1, 2008)
Henry Harrison (Hank) McAdams, 78, of Baker City, died Oct. 1, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. A graveside service was held at Mount Hope Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Oct. 4, 2008, reception followed at the Baker Elks Lodge. Hank was born on Aug. 12, 1930, at Nampa, Idaho, to Fred and Hazel McAdams. The family lived at Nampa, Weiser and Boise, Idaho while Hank was growing up. Hank met the love of his life Euna Fay Garrett in Boise, Idaho, in the fall of 1955 and they were married on Nov. 2, 1956, in Boise, Idaho. Hank enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Nov. 28, 1947, at the age of 17 and continued a career of distinguished service until his retirement to the Fleet Reserve on July 1, 1967 retiring with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. One of things he was proudest of during his military service was joining the Century Club (Hank affectionately referred to this part of his career as being a Crash Dummy) for having made a 100 premeditated free fall parachute jumps. Hank and Euna moved back to Baker City in 1967 where he started an upholstery business, which he sold in 1978 at that time he went to work in the auto industry working for Chet Smith Motors and Phillips-Long Ford until his retirement. Hank had many hobbies in his life including playing softball in his younger years, golf, coaching little league, and watching his children and grandchildren's sporting events. Hank also loved to hunt and fish until health issues later in life limited his ability to do so. Hank, an avid golfer spent many years and countless hours volunteering at the Baker City Golf Course. Many of Hank's projects still stand at the golf course including the deck, bar addition and the outhouse, appropriately called "Hank's Castle". Survivors include his wife of 53 years Euna, son Mike and his wife Roxanne of Baker City, daughter Bridgette and her husband Gary of Lincoln City, Ore., son Fred and his wife Laurie, and son Max both of Baker City. Grandchildren Jennifer Mahoney of Denver Colo., Casey and Darral Eason of Meridian, Idaho, Kyle, Krystal and Michael Knapp of Baker City, Henry, Alexandra, Amanda, Austin and Taylor McAdams all of Baker City and several great-grandchildren, brother Tom, and sisters June and Ruth all living in the Boise, Idaho, area. Hank was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Hazel, brother's John and Robert, and sister Shirley. Hank's family requests that donations be made to the Baker City youth sports organization of one’s choice.
