Cathryn Zoloto Slocom Eastman, 84, passed away Jan. 30, 2009, at her home at Ashley Manor Care Center.

She
was born July 7, 1924, in Hood River, Ore., to George I. and Zoloto
Cathryn (Kelsey) Slocom. She moved to Portland when she was 12 after
the death of her parents to live with her brother and sister-in-law,
Kelsey and Billie Slocom. She attended Grant High School and the
University of Oregon. She married her husband of 63 years, Watson
Sterling Eastman in 1946.
She
was secretary to the Commander in Chief of the Charleston, Oregon Naval
Air Station, then the Whidbey Island Air Station. She loved animals,
long walks, reading and lunching with friends. She was always ready to
engage in spirited debate and will be remembered among other things for
her keen wit and sense of humor. Cathryn and Watson moved to Baker
City in 2007, where her daughter Kelsey and son-in-law Richard Berg
reside.
Cathryn
is survived by her husband Watson Eastman of Baker City; sons David
Eastman of Salem, John Eastman of Lake Oswego, daughter Kelsey Eastman
of Baker City; 2 granddaughters and 2 grandsons.
Gray’s West & Company Pioneer Chapel of Baker City is in charge of services.
Richard Allen Moss

Richard Allen Moss, 57, passed away Jan. 31, 2009, at his home in Baker City.
Memorial
services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Baker
Valley Church of Christ. Minister John Goodyear of Baker Valley Church
of Christ will officiate. Cremation by Eastern Oregon Pioneer
Crematory.
Richard
was born Aug. 20, 1951, in Milton-Freewater, Ore., to Charles Leslie
and Florence Evelyn (Dixon) Moss. He graduated from Mac Hi in
Milton-Freewater and went onto trade school for sales and automotive
mechanic training.
He worked hard at his job as a mechanic for many years. He was also a successful salesman.
Richard
enjoyed camping, growing fruit and raising cattle. Richard had great
organizational skills and loved to put them to good use.
He was preceded in death by his parents C.L. and Florence Moss.
Richard
is survived by his wife Mary “Petie” Grazin of Baker City; daughters
Carrie Potts and her husband Mike and Lacy Turner and her husband Troy
both of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; brothers: Gary Moss of Baker City, Ken
Moss of Walla Walla, Wash., and Howard Moss of Milton-Freewater, Ore.;
sisters: Judy Parent of Milton-Freewater, Ore., Janice Hammon of Walla
Walla, Wash., Lesa Sweeney of Walla Walla, Wash. and Nancy Slack of
Hermiston, Ore.; 2-grandsons and 2-granddaughters.
Arrangements are in care of Gray’s West & Company Pioneer Chapel.
