Ivan B. Guilliams (June 15, 1935—Feb. 12, 2009)
Ivan B. Guilliams 73, a resident of Durkee, Ore., died Thursday at his home. At his request cremation was held and there will be a scattering of his ashes at a later date in the spring. Mr. Guilliams was born in Prairie City, Ore. June 15, 1935, a son of Howard and Lenora (Davis) Guilliams and was raised in Sumpter, Ore. He was a logger by trade which started very young with his father and family and he loved the forest and animals little or big. He worked for many years for Elvin Carter as a logger, then going to work for Ellingson Lumber Co. He also worked in the mines and loved that to because all this was started with his family. They were all very close. He loved to build things whether it was wood or from cardboard or paper. Ivan was a avid outdoors man and he loved camping, fishing, hunting and mining. You could always count on him doing one of the above or just out driving in the hills mushroom hunting or just driving investigating new ground. Ivan loved being around people and family, he knew no stranger, if you gave him a minute of your time you made a friend for life. He will be missed greatly by those who knew him. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife, Marylu Guilliams, Durkee, Ore.; daughters, Cindy Anderson and her husband Cody, Halfway, Ore.; Anne Boman and her husband Duane, Baker City, Ore.; Sheila Shukle, Baker City, Ore.; son Tim Guilliams, Baker City, Ore.; numerous grandchildren and friends to numerous to list. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Scott and Justin. Marjorie Reagan (June 17, 1918—Feb. 14, 2009)
Marjorie May (Tiedemann) Reagan, 90, passed away Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at her home in Halfway. Her memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, at the First Presbyterian Church, 1995 4th St., Baker City. Pastor Bill Shields of Pine Valley Presbyterian Church will officiate. Following the service friends are invited to join the family for food and fellowship in the Roger’s Hall of the First Presbyterian Church. Her cremated remains will be interred in a private ceremony at a later time. Marjorie May was born June 17, 1918, in Baker City to Dr. A.W. Tiedemann and May Denham Tiedemann. She graduated with honors from Baker High School in 1936 and went on to attend Willamette University. After college, she worked one year for Leo Adler and then to contribute to the war effort, she went to Fort Lewis, Washington to work. After the war, she married Orville Reagan. Marjorie worked for the Oregon State Police for over 20 years. Marjorie was an active volunteer. She was president of the PTA and a dedicated member of the Red Cross and Ground Observers. She also volunteered at the Baker Museum, The Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, Meals on Wheels and St. Elizabeth Hospital. She served as a deacon at the Baker Presbyterian Church. She painted with the Paint-About group, played Bridge with many friends and enjoyed traveling. In 1996, Marjorie moved to Halfway, Ore. In spite of her failing eyesight and lung disease she was able to live independently because of the support of the community. Her friends, family, church and the Pine-Eagle Clinic helped her maintain a good quality life. Marjorie truly enjoyed her 90th birthday party last June. She talked about it often and cherished the stories and memories shared by family and friends. She loved animals, especially her cat, Little, who had been her companion for nearly 15 years. She was preceded in death by her mother May Tiedemann, father Dr. Albert Wm. Tiedemann, husband Orville Reagan, brother Dr. Albert Tiedemann, and infant son Carl Louis Reagan. Marjorie is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws: Sharon and Jim Howard of McKinnleyville, Calif. and Susan and Kelly Rowen of Halfway; 5-grandchildren and their families: Amy and Eric Houk and children Dylan and Logan, Casey and Kim Rowen and children Kerri and Kadie, Cammie and Chris deCastro, Katie Howard and Jake Rowen. In lieu of flowers, Marjorie would prefer memorial donations be made to the Pine-Eagle Clinic, Pine Valley Presbyterian Church or the Baker City Presbyterian Church in care of Gray’s West & Company Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, Ore. 97814.
Max Spratling Max Spratling 83, a well known rancher and commercial Angus breeder of Starr Valley, Deeth, Nev., passed away Thursday at his wife’s ranch home at Haines, Ore., after a long illness. At his request he will be cremated and a private family gathering will be held at his Starr Valley ranch in Nevada at a later date. In 1991 he married Martha Jane Colvin Jacobs and since that time has divided his time between his Nevada ranch operations and Martha Jane’s ranch operation at Haines, Ore.
