Larry Blum (June 23, 1934—March 5, 2009)
Larry Blum, 74, died at his home on Thursday, March 5, 2009, in Baker City. A Memorial Service Celebration of Larry's life will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009, 2 p.m. at the Community Connection Center at 2810 Cedar in Baker City. Friends are invited to join the family for a reception to be held immediately following the service at the Community Connection Center. Lawrence "Larry" Armour Blum was born on June 23, 1934, to Harold and Juanita (Brown) Blum in Merriam, Kansas. He was raised in Coquille, Ore. and graduated in 1952 from Coquille High School. Following high school he joined the Army and served two years in Korea. After the army, he attended Linfield College for 4 years. He has owned and operated Municipal Pipe since the early 70's. He was such a friendly person and treated everyone the same. Larry never knew a stranger and talked to everyone. He met and married Shirlene his wife of 53 years in Coquille. They have a son Robert and two grandsons, Stephen and Cory whom he loved very much. He was his happiest when holding a fishing pole in Alaska and Mexico and in his younger years skin diving. Larry is survived by his wife Shirlene; son Robert and daughter-in-law Patty; grandsons Stephen and Cory; his brother Jack; numerous nieces and nephews and a special nephew, Ted Fluge. Watson Eastman (Sept. 13, 1924 - Feb. 25, 2009)
Watson Sterling Eastman, 84, passed away Feb. 25, 2009, at his home at Meadowbrook Place in Baker City. Watson was born Sept. 13, 1924 in Victoria, BC to William and Lorraine Eastman. He grew up in Portland, Ore., and graduated from Grant High School. Watson was a WWII combat veteran. He was self-employed most of his life, working through his retirement years for the Oregonian Publishing Co. until he was 81. Watson and Cathryn, his wife of 63 years, moved to Baker City in 2007. Cathryn preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 2009. Watson was a lifetime outdoorsman with a passion for fly-fishing, beginning on the Deschutes River in the 1950’s. He was a strong supporter for catch and release fisheries and stream restoration. He spoke from his heart, and will be remembered for his strength, wit and kind words for all. He is survived by his sons, David and John; daughter, Kelsey; sister, Margaret Kresse; and four grandchildren. Arrangements are in care of Gray’s West & Company Pioneer Chapel.
Don Kelley (July 4, 1956—March 8, 2009)
Donald Paul Kelley, 52, passed away of cancer on Sunday, March 8, 2009, his home in Baker City. At his request, there will be no services. Cremation by Eastern Oregon Pioneer Crematory, Baker City. Don was born July 4, 1956, in Silverton, Ore., to Roy Joseph and Esther Mary (King) Kelley. He owned and operated a sandwich shop in the 70s. He also owned and operated Don’s Second Hand Store in Molalla, Ore. Don and his wife Sandy moved to Baker City in 2001 where he worked at Bi-Mart, Sunridge and Paradise Truck Wash. Don was a loving husband, stepfather, brother and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Esther Kelley. Don is survived by his wife Sandy Kelley of Baker City; brothers Joe Kelley of Estacada, Ore., and Gordon Kelley of Colton, Ore.; stepdaughter Chavon Austin of Baker City; stepson Cliff Austin of Tigard, Ore.; and four grandchildren.
