—Letters To The Editor—

Old Time Remedies
To The Record-Courier:
My oh my, what am I up to now with this title and all? Yes, many of you still compliment me in the writing of these letters, catching up with me in the grocery stores etc....and or in passing. They say, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine.” So anything for a little humor these days to keep above all that our country is facing economically speaking. In lieu of economy etc., I will be doing some eye openers by making my letters even more fun to read with Money Savers, maybe even a Bargain Corner being mentioned. Wouldn’t be surprised if it does a little stirring up with the readers of this paper and having something worth mentioning from other readers and all that we could benefit from. In future letters I may be doing some of the old with the new for bright ideas etc. that many of you might have and may even help me at the same time and other readers of this paper. I made mention to the editor that I wasn’t sure if I would run out of words down the road. Well it just seems to keep going, and going and going kinda of like the rabbit running on batteries especially the Duracell kind. I like that little guy and even just for fun we ordered the Beanie Babie to take him places that like his humor, only on the silent side of things, at least he can’t say much. If he did he could get clobbered at that so we do make sure he is well behaved when we think he needs to have a social life of sorts. It’s amazing what kinda of responses you get from those wonderful waitresses and all....kinda of throws them for a loop you might say. I can see it now, most of you are shaking your heads and grinning. Gotcha ya! But the editor said that would probably be a never ending supply on my part and hers as well with her fun articles being fun to read. We all have a sense of humor if we can apply it where it is appropriate and all. Now, speaking of old time remedies, I do have a question. This can be a challenge for anyone to answer as I have tried several different ways to put those bottom sheets on the bed and keep them there... I even had one person who suggested suspenders from way back that didn’t work...are there any remedies for such things or does one just tolerate the issue? And what were the remedies in the good old days for making those beds etc. in keeping those bottom sheets on and making them way they do? We could probably all use a little history of sorts on this. I saw where one just put regular flat sheets etc. on so there’s am inside scoop if one dares. So if you have some responses on this you can email the paper or email me at Brendajames@q.com. Would love to pass the responses on to the paper as well for others to view and you can add your email to this as well.

Disappointed With No Ban On Pit Bulls
To The Record-Courier:
The shelving of a proposed “ban” on pit bulls in Oregon, which was proposed in the wake of several pit bull attacks, should disappoint everyone who cares about these dogs. Pit bulls are the breed of choice for dogfighters and thugs who beat, starve, chain, and otherwise abuse them to make them “mean.” A ban on breeding or acquiring new pit bulls while allowing well-cared for, spayed or neutered pits to remain with their families would not only help prevent pit bull attacks, it would keep countless dogs from ending up like the ones PETA's caseworkers care for every day: Trapped for years at the ends of heavy chains with nothing but bare patches of dirt and plastic barrels for shelter (if they're lucky), trembling in fear, full of heartworms, ribs protruding, and scarred all over from fights. It would also help prevent more dogs from being born only to be abandoned and/or euthanized in shelters. Anyone with pit bulls’ best interests at heart can agree that laws regulating their ownership would help protect the dogs they care about from tremendous suffering. More On The Towers
To The Record-Courier:
For six months, now, I have been wrestling with my confusions and opinions on the looming transformation of Baker County into a marching line of 500kV towers. I admit, I do exclaim, “Not in my backyard!” But I also cry, “Not in my neighbor’s backyard either!” If Baker County is going to accommodate more electrical transmission lines, they should be to service our own alternative energy projects, developed by ourselves for ourselves. If, however, these 500kV monstrosities are mandated to Baker County, I cannot rationally believe that they should be any place but on public land or on the I-84 corridor (and buried near the airport). To place these giants anywhere else fails all social and environmental tests and proves that the siting process is a result of power politics and not rational or scientific routing decisions. This public project belongs on public land! But that argument is given no credence by the federal or state agencies and least of all by Idaho Power. So I will move on to my second argument. The interstate has already divided Baker Valley, environmentally and visually. We have taken a beautiful valley and built a transport system through it (which, incidentally, I use myself) on some of the best agricultural land in Baker County. Bill boards are spreading like an invasive species and interstate development grows uglier every year. I-84 very effectively divides ecological systems also. We only have to view the road kills to be convinced of that. The environmental integrity of Baker Valley is already compromised; why would we extend this destruction to areas still sustaining vestiges of beauty and ecological functioning? May our County Commissioners hear the overwhelming mandate given at the MoveIdahoPower meeting Thursday evening, March 5, 2009; NO TRANSMISSION LINE THROUGH BAKER COUNTY. The best route is the first alternative proposed by Idaho Power in 2006 – run it north through Idaho. If it must come through Oregon then Baker County votes for the Buchanen alternate route. In response to “Bring on the Towers” – Bravo. One thing you did not mention, however, Bill, is that if we run the towers down Main Street, we would not have to purchase electricity to light our town at night! We could just place neon bulbs below the line and the “stray voltage” will provide us plenty of light; see Nancy Peyron for her photo. Thank you! Vicki Wares Baker City All New Wealth Sources Come From The Ground To The Record-Courier: Our county is spending unimaginable amounts of money to try to salvage our economy. While our present policies, laws and regulations plus two new laws going through Congress, if passed, will absolutely guarantee that there will be no recovery. It all comes down to jobs and money. All new wealth and resources come from the ground. Over regulation of our land access and use is the major reason for our present job and money problems. They have seriously damaged our basic industries. Harry Reid’s Senate Bill 22 compounds these problems, and Nick Rahalls’ HR699 will finish off the mineral industry in our nation. Mining is the world’s most important industry. No other business or industry can operate without using minerals. You cannot manufacture anything without using minerals. Try to think of one job you can do without using minerals directly or indirectly. If we must buy the resources to manufacture things from foreign sources, because we won’t let Americans produce them, where do we get the money? Printing dollars won’t get it. Without the real money and resources that we recover from our land to stimulate the economy, economic recovery chances are slim to none and America as we know it will soon be a thing of the past.

President Obama Is On The Wrong Track On Many Rights
To The Record-Courier:
I wrote a letter a while back about what Salvation means to the born-again believer in Jesus besides only Heaven. Seems, many still don’t understand. Healing for our complete bodies, our spirit and soul was given and paid for by Jesus on the Cross. But we must receive it. NOTHING is impossible for God, Nothing! If your faith is low find them who can help you. I volunteer! If you are a believer stop asking Jesus to heal you, He already has. Instead agree and start thanking Him for the manifestation of whatever you need. This is so important. But I want to deal with another matter that is very scary today. Where is this country and some others headed with today’s leaders? I’ve heard both views and cannot totally agree with either side. They both miss the Biblical point of what I believe God is trying to show and tell us in these last days. Remember, God put the responsibility of things on earth into the hands of us, His children, and we the church have been asleep. It may surprise or shock you to know the church, the Christian born-again believer still has the real answer.

President Obama I feel is on the wrong track on many rights and beliefs of this country. Some ungodly. How do we change and make it right? Prayer, the most powerful weapon in the whole universe. First Timothy two, verse one through three tells us if we want peace in our lives to pray for our leaders and all in power above us. You cannot change a person until their spirit is renewed. Notice He said pray for them, not against them. Finance (money) is another way we stay in bondage to the world’s ungodly system instead of believing and implementing God’s Biblical finance plan. God has told us throughout the Scriptures that if we will apply His plan we will become no longer financially dependent on the world’s system. Wouldn’t this be great? To really be the head and not the tail. To be the lender and not the borrower. To have all our needs met and to be able to put it into practice. God wants the best for us. Any other way is under the curse, and you should know who controls that. That’s the way the Scriptures imply we are in this world, but not of it. We have a better way. The Word says, “It’s God that gives us the power to get wealth.” He says He “will open up the windows of Heaven and pour a blessing that you cannot contain.” Same word used, “windows” used in the flood. He also said, if your ways to finance are “like a bucket with holes in it to consider your ways.” It’s time to get off the doom and gloom of the world and its system and onto the good news of God’s system.
