Wally Blair
(May 13, 1945-Aug. 27, 2009

Wally Blair, 64, of Springfield, a former Baker City resident died Aug. 27, 2009 of esophageal cancer.

A funeral was held 12:15  p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eugene. Visitation was from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1 at Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield.
Inurement will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Baker City Friday, Sept. 11, 11 a.m.
Wally was born May 13, 1945, in Baker, Ore., to James and Sylvia Blaylock Blair. He married Arlene Stauffer on Oct. 18, 1980, in Springfield.
He served in the National Guard. He started his career in the lumber industry in Baker City and other professions before becoming a truck driver, a profession that he loved.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Vincent and Meg Blair of Beresfield, New South Wales, Australia, and Fred Stauffer and his wife Crystal of Creswell; a daughter Roxanne Formby of Creswell; two brothers, Alan of Baker City and James of Salem; and six grandchildren.
A daughter, Katrina; sister, Sylvia; brother, David; niece, Ponglada Blair; and nephew Shane Blair preceded him in death.
Arrangements are by Andreason’s Cremation & Burial in Springfield.
Remembrances may be made to Green Hill Humane Society in Eugene.

 
Jeremy Ray Forsyth
(Oct. 11, 1970 - Aug. 16, 2009)

 Jeremy Ray Forsyth died in his home Sunday Aug. 16, 2009, at the age of 38. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to someone who left us much too soon.  The cause of death is unknown at this time.
Since his passing, the family has received much love and support from so many different people, it is clear that he was well liked by everyone. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
Jeremy was born Oct. 11, 1970 in Baker City, Ore., where he spent most of his life.  
His survivors include: mother Billie; brothers Bob and Tommy; sister Sherry; adoring nieces Crystal, Sarah and Naomi; nephews Robert and Lane; 3 yr. old daughter Cheyenne Rain, and her mother Dustine.
Anyone who knew him knows that though life was always a struggle for him, the love in his heart knew no limits. We pray that he has finally found peace.
We will have a service celebrating his life- information on the date and time is pending.

Edna Louise Pearson
(July 5, 1927 - Aug. 12, 2009)

Edna Pearson died Wednesday, Aug. 12, of Alzheimer’s disease at Cedar Crest Alzheimer’s facility, where she resided for the past three years.  She had just turned 82 years old.
Edna was born in Dayton, Wash.,  on July 5, 1927 ,to Arzee and Ethel Kenworthy.  The family moved to North Powder, Ore., when Edna was in grade school.  She graduated from North Powder High School where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Henry ‘Pete’ Pearson.  They were married on June 26, 1950 and moved to Baker City.  She lived in Baker City until moving to Tualatin in 2006.
Edna and Pete owned a plumbing business where Edna was the bookkeeper and office administrator. She also was a homemaker and mother of three.  Edna was very involved in her children’s activities, she was a Boy Scout den mom, Girl Scout leader, room mother and always willing to help out with the various activities that her children were involved in.   She enjoyed being a member of the VFW Auxiliary.  
Her hobbies included hunting deer and elk with Pete, accompanying him around the western United States trap shooting, reading, canning a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, and playing bridge.  Highlights of their lives were trips to the Wallowa Mountains lake basin with horses and traveling the Alaska Inland Passage sightseeing and fishing for king salmon.
Edna is survived by her three children, Frank Pearson (Chloe) of Milwaukie, Ore.;  Terry Pearson (Lynda) of Baker City, Ore.;  Ann Pearson McGranahan (Tom) of Wilsonville, Ore. and by one brother, Merle Kenworthy, Baker City, Ore.  She also has five grandchildren, Benji Pearson Henslee, Peter Pearson, Bryan Pearson, Shawn McGranahan, Kelly McGranahan Bretl and six great grandchildren ranging in ages 13 to 5 - Jessica, Chelsea, and Caydan Henslee, Andrew, Ashlynn, and Alec Pearson.  
After 50 plus years of marriage her husband, Pete preceded her in death in 2003 as well as four sisters and one brother.
A memorial service will be held at North Powder Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m.  A reception will follow at the North Powder Grange Hall.  Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center, Tualatin.

  
Steven Uptegrove
(May 12, 1957 - Aug.20, 2009)

Steven Andrew Uptegrove, 52, of Prairie City passed away Aug. 20. A memorial service was held Thursday, Aug. 27. Interment was at the Prairie City Cemetery.
Steve was born May 12, 1957 in Bend to Melvin and Ruby (Anderson) Uptegrove. He graduated from Bend Senior High in 1975. He attended Central Oregon Community College for four winter terms studying Forest Management. Steve married Hope Harvey on July 12, 2008 in Prairie City.
Steve had a long and distinguished career with the US Forest Service. He was a primary or secondary fire fighter since 1975 with engine experience. He held several positions including a helitack crew member, an interagency hot shot crew member (Deschutes 1HC 1979), a Division Group Supervisor, Field Observer, Safety Officer, Classs C Faller, Incident Commander Type 3, Ground Support Unit Leader, and Engine Foreman. His career is as follows: mid 1970s -1985 Mt. Bachelor lift operator and Ski Patrolman; 1985-1990 Fire fighter Deschutes, FOA Rock RD; 1986 Detail Umpqua NF, Tiller RD AFMO; 1991-1995 Payette NF, Krassel RD AFMO; 1996 Bridger Teton NF, Big Piney RD Engine Foreman; 1997-2000 Shoshone NF, Clarks Fork RD AFMO; 2001-2006 Malheur NF, Prairie City RD; 2004 temporary promotion Willamette NF, Detroit RD; 2006-present lateral reassignment Wallowa-Whitman NF, Burnt Powder Fire Zone, Station Lead and engine Foreman. In 1990, Steve received an award for High Quality/ Special Uses Program Management, and in 2000 won an award for High Quality/ Extended Service in Support of Fire Management.
Steve is survived by his parents Melvin and Ruby Uptegrove of Bend; his wife Hope Uptegrove of Prairie City; son William Doyle; step-children Jamie, Hayley, Savanah, Shannon, and Whitney; brother Mike Uptegrove and his wife Marcie of Othello, WA; sister Linda Spittler and husband Bob of Bend; nephews Adam and Rob; and nieces Kailee, Erin, and Heather.
Memorial contributions in support of Steve’s family can be made to Driskill Memorial Chapel at 241 S. Canyon Blvd, John Day, Ore., 97845.
