Keith L. Holmes
(Aug. 13, 1929—Jan. 20, 2010)

Keith L. (Pee Wee) Holmes,  formerly of Heyburn, Idaho, passed away Jan 20, 2010, at his home in Baker City, Ore. He was born Aug. 13, 1929, to Claire Knudsen Holmes and Dell Holmes at Burley, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers; Harold Holmes, Ralph Holmes and Don Holmes, and his sister Karen Holmes Rehn.
Keith is survived by his wife of 46 years Kay Charles Holmes. Seven children; Laura Huggins and husband Ed of Baker City, Ore., Sheryl Farmer, Kelly Kriner, and Randy Holmes all of Pocatello, Idaho, Andra Catmull and Julie Christensen and husband Kevin of Las Vegas, Nev., and Cathy Davis and husband Rod of Henderson, Nev.  
Keith is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; Lukas, Matea and Gracie Huggins of Baker City, Ore., Aaron Greenwell, Melanie Mortensen, Whitney Greenwell, Isaac Percy all of  Pocatello, Idaho, Alicia Catmull, Isiac Catmull, Bret Davis all of  Las Vegas, Nev., Ryan Christensen and Shawn Davis of Saint George, Utah, Jamie Preston of Woods Cross, Utah, Hollie Davis of Lehi, Utah, McKenzie Christensen of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Burgandy Holmes, and numerous great grand children, several nieces and nephews.
Gray’s West & Company Pioneer Chapel is handling the arrangements. A memorial service will be held at a later date.


Norma Parret
(May 17, 1920—Jan. 18, 2010)

Norma Parret, 89, of Baker City passed away Jan. 18, 2010 at Settlers Park.  A memorial service will be held at Prairie City Cemetery at a later date.
Norma Fern Parret was born May 17, 1920, in Austin, Ore., to Walter and Ada (Smyth) Raines. She attended school in Prairie City, Ore.  On April 26, 1936, she married Alferd Floid Parret in Canyon City, Ore.  They began their life together in Austin, Ore., and moved to Prairie City where they raised their three children.  They later lived in Unity and Hereford.  Norma resided at Settlers Park in Baker City for the past eight years.
She enjoyed sewing, beadwork, knitting, crocheting, hunting, fishing and nursing.  She also volunteered for the Forest Service which was something she really enjoyed.
Norma is survived by her brother, Leonard Raines of Prairie City, Ore., son, Alferd Parret of Heppner, Ore., daughter, Lucille Reilly of Hereford, Ore., son, Royce Parret of Myrtle Creek, Ore.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ada Raines, her husband, Floid Parret, three brothers:  Forrest, Willard, and Donald Raines, and two grandsons:  Boyd Alan Parret and Rusty Reilly.

Thomas Pierce
(Aug. 1, 1960—Jan. 19, 2010)

Thomas (Tommy) Samuel Pierce Jr., age 49, of Baker City, Oregon, passed away Jan. 19, 2010.  He will be cremated and a celebration will be held later in the summer of 2010.
Tommy Jr. was born Aug. 1, 1960, in Baker City to Thomas and Beverly Pierce.  He was a lifelong resident of Baker City. Tommy Jr. loved to fish, hunt, pick mushrooms, and barbeque.  His favorite hobby was to have a family member take him to a “special” mountain that he would climb to the top and stay for days, then someone would go back and get him. Tommy was part Cherokee Indian and very proud of his Indian heritage.  He lived by the “Indian ways” faithfully.  Although he had no children of his own, his dog Brisco meant everything to Tommy Jr. and he considered him his son.
Tommy Jr. was married to Helen Star Pierce who proceeded him in death.  He had a very special relationship with his niece Kaycee Noel.  In his later stages of his disease, Kaycee was there to play cards and make “Uncle” smile!
Tommy Jr. is preceded in death by his parents Thomas Pierce and Beverly DeRoest, his wife Helen Star Pierce, brothers Sherman and Steven, maternal and fraternal grandparents.
He is survived by his great friends and caregivers Jack and Cheryl, siblings Richard and Meridan Pierce of Washington, James and Vicki Wallette of Spokane, Wash., Leslie and Sherry Pierce of Grants Pass, Ore., Tanya Milanez of Boise, Idaho, Shane and Tangie Colton of Emmett, Idaho, Ted and DJ Riley of Baker City, Ore., Kimmy K. Suitter of Baker City, Ore., numerous nieces and nephews, and his loving dog Brisco.

Phyllis Schmidt
(May 12, 1936—Jan. 20, 2010)

Phyllis E. Schmidt, 73, loving wife of Donald E. Schmidt whom she married on Nov. 5, 1982, went to be with her Lord on Jan. 20, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Health Services. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Phyllis was born on May 12, 1936, at Wilkes-Barre, Pa., the oldest child of Evan and Phyllis Hughes. She lived in Chester, Pa., until 1949, then in Arizona. She graduated from Scottsdale High School and attended the Arizona College of Bible receiving a two-year degree in Bible.
After living in Arizona for 49 years, Phyllis moved to Baker City, a town she really loved, in 1998.
She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church where she had many friends.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Don, of Baker City, Ore.; two brothers:  Daniel Hughes and wife, Jennifer and James Hughes and wife Karen of Albany, Ore.; two sisters:  Elaine Hughes and Nancy Sechrest of Tempe, Ariz.; three step children:  Donald D. Schmidt of Chandler, Ariz., John Schmidt and wife, Sherry, of Nampa, Idaho, and David Schmidt and wife Nancy of Goodyear, Ariz.; eight step grand children: Chet Schmidt and Joya Tuberville of Prescott, Ariz., John R. Schmidt and Christie Anderson of Phoenix, Ariz., Jeanna Hernandez of Wichita Falls, Texas, Jessica Prentice of High Springs, Fla., Calle and Deidre Zobal of Nampa, Idaho and 12 step great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Evan and Phyllis Hughes, and a brother, Evan “Bud” Hughes.

Forrest Walker
(July 24, 1940—Jan. 22, 2010)

Forrest David Walker, 69, died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at his home on Stices Gulch near Baker City, Ore.
At his request cremation was held.
Mr. Walker was born July 24, 1940, in Tulsa, Okla., the son of Forrest and Marcella (Clayton) Walker.  He graduated from high school in Burlingame, Calif., in 1959.  He served two terms in the U S Army.  Mr. Walker married Vera Crawford in Reno, Nev., on Jan. 18, 1970.  They celebrated their 40th anniversary Monday, Jan. 18.
He served in law enforcement for 30 years and worked for Parole & Probation for six years. He coordinated  the camps for the federal forestry for five years also.
He enjoyed working on his property along side his loving wife and enjoyed weekends with his family.  He raised and supported his family for 40 plus years.  Mr. Walker enjoyed helping out anyone who needed a helping hand and he never met a stranger, he was admired by all and touched the lives of everyone he spoke with and met.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Vera Walker; daughter, Cynthia Walker; daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda and Scott Hutton,; Stephanie and Don Pratt all of Baker City, Ore.; grandchildren; Anastasia, Rachell, Bethany, Richard, Wyatt, David, Justin, and great-grandchild Ayden Jonah all of Baker City, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested to make donations to assist with funeral expenses, this maybe done through the Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. Baker City, Ore. 97814.


Lynda L. Williams
(Born June 29, 1927)

After suffering from a serious illness, Lynda has gone to be with her Father in Heaven.  Lynda was born to Ralph and Norma Livengood on June 29, 1927.  She followed her father as he served in the Coast Guard in Charleston Winchester Bay and California.  After graduating from Coquille High School, she attended classes to become a bookkeeper, working in Coquille until her marriage to John Williams and then helping him with his career with the Oregon State Police.
Because of her beauty and graceful appearance, she reigned as Queen on several occasions, and even rode the Miller Department Store float as the Court’s Queen in the Cherry City Parade in the early fifties.
Lynda dearly loved animals especially kittens and she loved to grow flower gardens in the cities of Coquille, Astoria, Baker and Salem.
As a member of Illahe Country Club, she enjoyed golfing with many friends.  Lynda took oil painting lessons for several years and has several seascapes and snow covered mountains to show for it.  She taught church classes while belonging to St. Paul Episcopal Church before converting to Catholicism in 1992.
Her loving smile and kind nature will be sorely missed.
Lynda is survived by her husband, John; son, Jon and wife Judy; special grandson, Erik and wife Heather; and other cousins and relatives; and friends, Jackie Hanson and Joyce Miller.  As a dedicated member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Lynda will be remembered at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2009.  Private interment will take place at Williamette National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Williamette Humane Society, 548 High Street N.E., Salem, Ore. 97301.  Arrangements by Howell-Edwards-Doerksen Funeral Home.
