Franklyn ‘Garry’ Bowman (March 31, 1939—Feb. 16, 2010)
Garry Bowman passed away Feb. 16, 2010, at home of natural causes surrounded by family. A Celebration of Garry's Life will be held at a later date, to be announced. Garry was born March 31, 1939, to Franklyn “Frank” and Helenmae “Jean” Bowman at the Lower Ranch near Richland, Ore. He spent most of his childhood in Richland and in Weiser, Ida., were he loved to spend time with his grandparents, Jim and Babe Fleetwood at their ranch. Garry started school in Robinette, Ore., which is now under the backup waters, and graduated from Eagle Valley High School in 1957. During High School, he played center on the football team. He married Shirley Ann Larkins on Aug. 26, 1961. They had two girls. Garry was a part of the National Guard of Oregon and the Army Reserve from 1957 to 1965. Garry worked on his grandparents and family ranch in his younger years handling cattle and haying, he also worked for other ranchers in the area. Garry worked on the Hell’s Canyon Dam, Brownlee Dam and the Oxbow Dam. He later traveled the northwest while working for a cement transportation company from 1966 until retiring in 2008. He started with K-Lines Trucking, Inc., which later was sold to Gresham Transfer, Inc. His family traveled with him to many of his jobs. During his childhood he began a love for the rodeo while spending time with his grandparents who participated in many of the area events. He continued to attend many rodeos and bull riding events during his lifetime. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping. He also loved bowling, playing cards, and cribbage. He enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. He had a good sense of humor and always loved a good laugh and/or prank. In his later years he looked forward to going to coffee with his good friends. He had many friends and rarely forgot someone‚s name. He loved being surrounded by family and friends. Garry was a member of the Elks Club and the Eagles Auxiliary. He was a member of the North Marion Booster Club while his girls were in High School. Garry was preceded in death by his dad Frank Bowman, his grandparents Jim and Anna “Babe” Fleetwood and Lloyd and Ruby Bowman and Andrew and Belle Marlow. Garry is survived by his wife and best friend Shirley Ann Bowman of 48 years. His mother, Helenmae “Jean” Bowman of Walla Walla, Wash. His two daughters; Cindi Nichols of Baker City and Kaylene and husband Mike Dennison of Marana, Ariz.; grandchildren Daniel “D.J.” Nichols of Baker City, Kassi and husband Kevin Kaminski of Tucson, Ariz., Kayla Nichols and Eric Lodwig of Gresham, Ore., Travis Dennison of Marana, Ariz., Nicole and husband Mike Hale of Tucson, Ariz., Christy and husband Ryan Watson of Henderson, Nev.; great grandchildren Nickolas Kaminski, Madison Kaminski, and Aubrey Hale all of Tucson, Ariz. Sister Ruth Bowman and Pete Barlow of Milton Freewater, Ore.; brothers Lyle “Butch” and Lavaughn Bowman of Casper, Wyo. Lloyd “Bud” and Sherryll Bowman of White City, Ore. Survivors also include many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, and many, many friends. Allie L. Buck (Sept. 30, 1914—Feb. 21, 2010)
Allie Lucille Buck of Baker City, Ore., passed away Feb. 21, 2010, at the age of 95 years. There will be a gathering later in the spring in Boise, Idaho. Allie was born Sept. 30, 1914, in Decatur, Ill. She was born the sixth of 12 children to John and Anna (Clark) Vermillion. Allie was a Sunday school teacher, Brownie and Girl Scout leader, and a den mother with the Boy Scouts. She could yodel, sing, and play the guitar. Allie married Niels C. Buck in April of 1940. Together they had two children, Janice (Musgrave), and Donald Buck. Allie and Niels were also avid rock hounds, belonging to three clubs in California. Allie is survived by her sister, Mary McCarty of Lancaster, Calif.; her daughter Janice of Baker City; her son Donald and his wife, Karry of Apple Valley, Calif.. Ten grandchildren, Randy and Nancy Jewell, Tony and Chris Jewell, Shawn Buck, April Buck, Ryan and Angela Buck, Elana Buck, and Cheyena Buck, Four great grandchildren, Shawn, Brandon, Jessica, and Kaleb, and a great great granddaughter, Alexis. She also had many nieces and nephews. Allie is preceded in death by her husband, Niels, her parents, and ten of her brothers and sisters. The family would like to give a very special thank you to the staff at Saint Elizabeth Care Center and to Heart ‘N‚ Home Hospice. You helped more than you will ever know. She was the best mom in the world. She was loved by everyone who knew her and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Vernon H. Koos (Jan. 20, 1958—Feb. 14, 2010)
Vernon H. Koos, 52, passed away after a three-year battle with cancer on Feb. 14, 2010 at Meadowbrook Place in Baker City, Ore., with his family at his side. A Celebration of Vern's Life will be held at the Armory, 1940 Campbell, in Baker City on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010 at 2 p.m. A potluck reception will be held immediately following the service at the Armory. Vernon was born on Jan. 20, 1958, in Silverton, Ore., to Henry and Elaine Koos. His childhood years were spent in Molalla, Ore., where he attended school until graduating from Molalla Union High School in 1976. After school Vernon went to work in the logging and sawmill industry while serving an enlistment in the Oregon National Guard. After completing his enlistment he moved to the Vale area where he worked in agriculture and driving truck. In 1988 he moved to Baker City where he worked with his brother cutting timber and then in construction. Through the following years he worked at various trades. Vern always enjoyed making the trip back home to Molalla to visit friends and family. It was on one of these trips in 1993 that he met what was to be the love of his life, Regina (Tori). Vern and Tori married in 1995 and settled in to raise a family in Baker City. Vern was very family oriented and enjoyed visits from his extended family members with the youngest ones bringing the most joy to his day, even in his last days the baby's brought a smile to his face, his time with the kids, the life lesson talks—he always had a way to make everyone laugh or smile All throughout Vern's life he enjoyed the outdoors. It began with family camping trips as a child and continued with fishing, camping and some hunting as an adult. His family was an important part of his life and they were included in these outings. Deer Creek was a favorite site as was Silver Creek Falls State Park. Barbequing and gardening were among his favorite backyard activities. The flavor of a fresh off the vine red ripe tomato was his favorite. Vernon is survived by his wife Regina (Tori), his daughter Kaylalynn and son Tyler of Baker City, Ore.; Parents Henry and Elaine Koos of Molalla, Ore.; Sisters Marlene (John) Daniels, Cheryl (Scott) Parks of Molalla Ore.; Mary (Dan) Schweizer of Colton, Ore.; a brother George (Renetta) Koos of Baker City, Ore.; two aunts, three uncles, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial contributions may be made in Vern's name to Tami's Pine Valley Home, P.O. Box 543 Halfway, OR 97834 to help the family defray funeral expenses.
