(July 30, 1933 - May 1, 2010)

Dolores Alvena “Dee” (Van Cleave) McGill, 76, of Pilot Rock, Ore., died May 1, 2010, at Willowbrook Terrace. A memorial service was held Saturday, May 8, 2010, 11 a.m. at the Bethel Assembly of God Church, Pendleton Visitations were Thursday, 12 to 5 p.m. and Friday 9] a.m. -5 p.m. at the Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, Folsom- Bishop. Burial was at Mount Hope Cemetery, Baker City

Dee was born July 30, 1933, in Baker City, Ore., to Alva and Rachel

(Riley) Wunder. She graduated from Baker City High School in 1951. Dee married Johnny Joseph Van Cleave in Baker City in 1952. He] passed away in 1987. She married David McGill on Sept. 6, 1997 in Pilot Rock, Ore. She worked for the school district in food service and as a bus driver. She grew up in Baker City. She moved to Hereford then Alston’s Corner, moving to Bend in 1955. Moved back to Hereford in 1980 then to John Day, Heppner and then to Pilot Rock.

Survivors include her husband: David McGill of Pilot Rock; Son: Tim Van Cleave of Pendleton; Daughter: Jaycee (Janette) Van Cleave of Fresno, Calif.; Brother: Ray Wunder of Nampa, Idaho; Sister: Linda Wall of Baker City; and 6 Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Johnny Van

Cleave. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Bethel Church in Pendleton.

‘Hap’ Phillips

(Oct. 10, 1918 - May 4, 2010)

Harry “Hap” Phillips, 91, of Baker City, Ore., passed away May 4, 2010, at Meadowbrook Place. A visitation was held Monday, May 10, 2010, at Coles Tribute Center from 3 to 7 p.m. His funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Coles Tribute Center with Jack Pittman officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends were invited to join the family for a reception at Baker City Christian

Church following the services. Harry Alton Phillips was born in Baker City, Ore., on Oct. 10, 1918 to James and Maggie (Wicks) Phillips. He was raised on the Phillip Family Ranch in the upper Wingville area that his father purchased in 1906. He graduated from Haines High School in 1937. After high school, it was expected that he would assist his father with the ranch operations. Harry married Ethelda Sears July 3, 1940. They had four children: Helen, Joyce, Allen and George. When his parents turned over the ranch operation to him in 1942 and moved to Haines, he moved back into the family ranch house where he has resided since. He spent his entire life working and improving the ranch property. As a youth, he and his father used eight work horses for ranch operations before purchasing their first tractor in the early 40s. Hap was a long time member of the Wingville Grange and served as Master several times. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethelda, in 2004; his parents; his three older sisters: Grace Kirkland, Stella Tobias and Opal White.

He is survived by his four children and their spouses: Helen and Marvin Hopkins, Joyce and Woody Williams, Allen and Marge Phillips, George and Hope Phillips; 10 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

The family wants to express their sincere thanks to the many wonderful neighbors who assisted their Dad in his later years. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice through Coles Tribute Center, 1950 Place Street, Baker City, OR 97814,
