Chris Crum (De. 26, 1957 - June 21, 2010)
Chris Alan Crum, 52, a resident of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away June 21, 2010, at the St. Lukes Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls, Idaho. Funeral Services for Chris were held on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meeting house at 824 Caswell Ave. W. Twin Falls, Idaho. Graveside services were Monday, June 28, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Coles Tribute Center was in charge of local arrangements. Chris was born Dec. 26, 1957, in Baker City, Ore., to Leslie and Elaine Crum. He received all of his schooling in Baker and attended Rick's College for 1-1/2 years. After college, he moved to Twin Falls, Idaho and worked in a bicycle shop. This is where he met Cindy Shuttel and they were married Aug. 18, 1980. For several years they participated in bicycle racing. They had two daughters, Chandra and Catina. When the marriage ended, he stayed in Twin Falls to be close to his daughters. Through the years Chris has worked as a carpenter having his own business, "The Little Ole Sawmill." A lot of his work was in the Sun Valley and Stanley area where he did remodeling and finish work. He earned a high reputation for doing a phenomenal job. He also had a vast computer knowledge and unselfishly used that expertise to help family and friends with their computer problems. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and skiing with his daughters, and being with family when he could. For many years Chris played tennis on a city league and enjoyed that so much. He is survived by his two daughters, Chandra and Catina; his mother, Elaine Collard and her husband Ernie, of Baker City, Ore.; his father, Leslie Crum and his wife, Fugi of Sun City, Ariz.; brother, Tracy Crum and his wife Cris and family of Baker City; sisters, Marcy Horning and her husband Kelly and family of Peoria, Ariz., and Susan Crum of Glendale, Ariz. Step-brothers, Scott Collard and family of Lexington, SC; Bryan Collard and his wife Mary and family of Baker City; and a step sister, Kristy Miner and her husband Rod and family of Baker City; and by many friends in the Twin Falls and Baker City areas. Lois Emerson (Feb. 25, 1952 - June 20, 2010)
Lois Irene Emerson, 57, of Baker City, died at home on June 20, 2010. There will be no service. Lois was born Feb. 25, 1952, in Portland, Ore., to Elmer and Lillian (Boins) Schuff. She married Don Emerson and they had two children, Jena Harman and Ty Emerson. Survivors include her husband Don and their children Jena and Ty. Lawrence Johnson Sr. (May 12, 1922 - June 23, 2010
Lawrence Johnson Sr. passed away June 23, 2010, at his home in Baker City, Ore. He was 88 years old. He was born May 12, 1922 to Clearcy (Johnson) and John Wesley Johnson in Hebron, Douglas County, Mo. A funeral service was held Saturday, June 26, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene in Baker City. Interment followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Pastor Lennie Spooner of the Nazarene Church officiated. A reception was held at the church fellowship hall immediately following the services. Lawrence graduated high school in 1940 and on Feb. 21, 1946, he married Lula Lovan in West Plains, Missouri. He served in the Air Force for three years being discharged as a corporal. Lawrence then became a watchmaker and taught watchmaker’s school in Charlston, Miss. He later owned and operated Johnson’s Jewelry in Baker City from 1964 until he retired in December of 1982. His hobbies consisted of fishing and hunting with his favorite partner, his wife. He also enjoyed refinishing gun stocks; coaching little league and spending time with his family. Lawrence was a member of the church of the Nazarene. Lawrence is survived by his wife Lula Johnson of Baker City, Ore.; son Lawrence Johnson Jr. and wife Kim of Lynden, Wash.; three daughters Bonnie Olson and husband Victor of Clackamas, Ore.; Diana Grandeen and husband Everett of Elgin, Ore.; and Patty Born and husband Grant of Cove, Ore. Lawrence is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Clearcy Johnson; His brother Ray Johnson; and his two half sisters Hazel Freeman and Veda Casey. Gilbert Prentiss Lee (Oct. 10, 1917 - June 19, 2010)
Gilbert Prentiss Lee died Saturday evening, June 19, 2010, of natural causes at the age of 92. According to Prentiss' wishes there will be no memorial services. He was born Oct. 10, 1917, to Joseph Roscoe Lee and Myrtle Emily Guttersen-Lee in Richland. He grew up in Eastern Oregon with his three brothers and graduated from Baker City High School in 1935. He attended Pasadena Junior College and earned his Bachelor of Arts from Reed College in 1939. He took time off from formal studies to cycle through Europe as Hitler's army was preparing for the invasion into Poland. Upon his return to the U.S. he attended Tuft's Medical School for two years and then transferred to the University of Oregon Medical School, graduating in 1943. He did his internship training at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Seattle and then entered World War II as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He served from 1944 through 1946, stationed in the South Pacific as a medical officer. Following the war, he did three years of surgical residency training at the Portland Veteran's Administration Hospital and then an additional two years at the Fort Harrison VA Hospital in Helena, Mont. He then was accredited by the American College of Surgeons and became a diplomat to the American Board of Surgery. He married Patricia Alison Brownell July 9, 1949. Their son Gilbert was born in 1950, followed by Gary in 1952, and Granville in 1953. Prentiss and Patty relocated from Montana to Portland in 1952 to their house that they have lived in ever since. Dr. Lee joined the Valley Medical Clinic and was on the medical staff at Good Samaritan Hospital and Providence St. Vincent Medical Center until his retirement in 1990. Dr. Lee was president of the Multnomah County Medical Society in 1963, active member of the Portland Surgical Society, and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He enjoyed taking his three boys mountain climbing, skiing, and hiking. When not working, he developed his home property into a park-like setting while retaining two acres of natural habitat. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, neighbor, and friend. All who knew him will miss him dearly. Prentiss is survived by his wife, Patty; sons, Gilbert and Granville; daughters-in-law, Stephanie and Christi; grandchildren, Sean, Shannon, Alison, Lauren, Devin, and Jennifer; and great-grandchild, Addison. His son, Gary, died tragically in a mountain climbing accident in 2008
