Alek’s talent for sports was evident from a young age. He went to Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, where he played baseball and was one of the best high school players in the country. 

He won many awards, like being on the All-State team three times and twice being named Gatorade Player of the Year for Illinois. In 2018, the Arizona Diamondbacks picked Alek in the second round of the MLB draft.
