'Mama Coco' Maria Salud Ramirez Caballero passes away at 109

The 109-year-old Maria Salud Ramirez Caballero, who is thought to have served as the model for Mama Coco in the Disney Pixar film, has passed away.

When the animated film debuted in 2017, its narrative captured the hearts of many spectators.

According to TMZ, Maria allegedly served as the model for the movie Mama Coco, Miguel’s great-grandmother who has memory loss.

Many others paid their condolences and shared heartfelt tributes to the Mexican woman on social media.

Real-life “Mama Coco” reportedly died last weekend in Santa Fe de la Laguna, where she was born and raised. She just recently celebrated her 109th birthday; she was born on September 16, 1913.

Roberto Monroy, secretary of tourism for the Mexican state of Michoacan, verified her demise. At the time of writing, no official cause of death had been disclosed to the public or media.

Tributes Paid to Maria Salud Ramirez

The phrase “tireless woman and life model” has been used to describe Maria. Her three children, as well as several grandkids and great-grandchildren, are still alive.

Moviegoers are grieving Maria’s passing, and several posted heartfelt eulogies to the Mexican woman on Twitter.

“Man I woke up today to the news the actual Mama Coco died,” read one tribute.

“I just learned that Mama Coco passed away yesterday,” remarked another.

I can never see Coco without crying like she’s my own Mama Coco, according to someone else’s homage.

Miguel’s great-grandmother, Socorro Rivera, who is portrayed in the film as Mama Coco, is a loving and encouraging woman. For Mama Coco, Ana Ofelia Murguia delivered the voiceover.

The film tells the tale of Mama Coco’s childhood when her father Hector would compose and perform songs for her.

A family portrait that Mama Coco treasured of her parents, Imelda and Hector, with Hector’s face torn off the photograph, is one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the film.
