According to a report published by the North Carolina medical examiner on Tuesday, NASCAR Xfinity Series crew chief Nick Harrison, a native of Columbia, Tennessee, tested positive for cocaine, oxycodone, and alcohol.
Sadly, Harrison, age 37, passed away on July 21. While working for the Kaulig Racing Team, he served as crew chief for Xfinity Series driver Justin Haley. At New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Harrison’s body was discovered the day after a race.
According to the toxicology results, Harrison overdosed on the combination of 0.32 mg/L of oxycodone (a prescription opioid), 0.14 mg/L of cocaine, and alcohol.
While still a student at Spring Hill High School, Harrison got his start in the racing industry at Nashville’s Fairgrounds Speedway. Starting off, he worked as crew chief for Columbian racecar driver Steadman Marlin, the son of two-time Daytona 500 winner Sterling Marlin.
