The successful musical comedy series Glee can owe Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk’s romance for its popularity. Paltrow’s 2010 guest appearance on the program as a teacher’s aide named Holly Holliday was the first time the two actors crossed paths.
Both Paltrow and the Glee co-creator were married to other people at the time: Paltrow to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and the Glee co-creator to producer Suzanne Bukinik.
Separating in August of 2014, the two began dating in secret, until becoming public in April of 2015 at Robert Downey Jr.’s 50th birthday celebration, where Paltrow was celebrating with her friend and costar.
Paltrow told PEOPLE that her wedding to Pitt was her “first wedding,” revealing the couple’s secret engagement in 2017. Paltrow said of Falchuk in 2021 that he was “such a great, amazing dude.”
