A significant portion of our memories of the amazing, enormous, and ravaging dinosaurs, or dinosaurs as they are more often known, come from the Jurassic Park films. The franchise is still going strong, just like the mythical animals that were brought back to life through cloning, which is one of the reasons why there are so many dinosaur enthusiasts in the world today.

You might want to brush up on your Jurassic knowledge by rewatching the series in order before Jurassic World Dominion, the sixth and allegedly final installment, arrives in theatres on Friday, June 10. Based on Michael Crichton’s novel of the same name, Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park was the catalyst for the entire phenomenon.

The 1993 original film, which continues to be regarded as one of the best films of the 1990s, captivated audiences everywhere. The Lost World: Jurassic Park in 1997 and Jurassic Park III in 2001 were its two sequels. The saga continues in 2015 with the release of Jurassic World, despite the fact that the sequels couldn’t quite match the magic of the original movie but were still fairly successful in their own right.

In 2018, Jurassic World: the Fallen Kingdom, the sequel to Jurassic World, was released. The Jurassic World franchise has been very profitable thus far, and both of the movies made over a billion dollars while being released in theatres.

We’ve arranged the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World films in a logical order so you can enjoy a hassle-free experience while watching a Cretaceous movie marathon while you wait for your next visit to this poorly protected theme park and the chance to see your favorite dinosaurs once again on the big screen!

Jurassic Park and Jurassic World Movies in Chronological Order

The ideal approach to seeing the movies is in the order of release because there aren’t any prequels yet. We did not include spin-offs like Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous (2020–present) because they have not yet significantly impacted the main plot (you can read all about how Camp Cretaceous overlaps and references the Jurassic movies here), but we did include the recently released short film Battle at Big Rock because it significantly affects the Jurassic World plot.

1. Jurassic Park

When Jurassic Park was first released in 1993, it quickly rose to the status of one of the highest-grossing films ever. In order to guarantee that his ambitious new theme park, located on the made-up island of Isla Nublar, is actually secure before it is formally opened to the public, Jurassic Park’s owner John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) assembles a team of scientists and experts.

The group consists of the mathematician Ian Malcolm, the archaeologist Drs. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and (Jeff Goldblum). More than twenty prizes, including three Oscars, were given to Jurassic Park.

In 2018, the Library of Congress chose the movie for preservation in the United States National Film Registry because it was “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

2. The Lost World: Jurassic Park

Four years after the previous movie’s conclusion, The Lost World: Jurassic Park picks up and shows Hammond losing control of his firm InGen. He did, however, succeed in concealing the presence of a second island, Isla Sorna, which was used for dinosaur breeding.

It was a component of a cover-up that kept the entire globe in the dark regarding the failure of Hammond’s prior endeavor. Hammond enlists Ian Malcolm once more to travel to the second island after an incident there prompts the need for a fresh squad.

When they attempt to smuggle away dinosaurs for their own park, they run afoul of InGen’s new owners. In addition to receiving an Academy Award nomination, the movie enjoyed box office success.

3. Jurassic Park III

In the third and concluding installment of the Jurassic Park trilogy, Joe Johnston takes over as director from Steven Spielberg (The Rocketeer). The plot centers on Dr. Alan Grant, who is investigating the intelligence of velociraptors but is unable to secure funding for his new endeavor.

He runs with Paul and Amanda Kirby, who cons him into going on their trip (played by William H. Macy and Tea Leoni). In exchange for an aerial tour of Isla Sorna, the island featured in The Lost World, the couple agrees to support Grant’s research. Despite being a box office hit, the movie had the series’ lowest overall earnings.

4. Jurassic World

The film Jurassic World was planned to begin production in 2004, but setbacks caused the project to languish in development for ten years. The first in the Jurassic World trilogy and the fourth installment in the Jurassic Park film series, Jurassic World was directed by Colin Trevorrow.

The tale revolves around Simon Masrani (Irrfan Khan), the CEO of the Masrani Global Corporation, who purchased InGen in 1997 with the intention of building his own theme park, Jurassic World, which is an upgrade of Hammond’s Jurassic Park.

Similar to the first movie, a seemingly ordinary day is turned upside down when the park’s newest attraction, an artificial hybrid dinosaur known as Indominus Rex, escapes from its enclosure and causes havoc. The movie was the third highest-grossing movie of its day and had a huge box office triumph, taking in $1.6 billion globally.

5. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

The follow-up to Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, is the fifth installment in the Jurassic Park series. After escaping Jurassic World and living in peace for four years without human intervention, the dinosaurs are seen in the JA Bayona-directed movie, but tales of a volcano eruption put their existence in danger and force people back to the island.

For the first time since The Lost World, Jeff Goldblum returns to the screen as Ian Malcolm from the Jurassic Park trilogy. A year after the events of Jurassic World: the Fallen Kingdom, a short film titled Battle at Big Rock chronicles the first significant conflict between humans and dinosaurs.

The main focus of the movie is a modest family who goes camping in a fictitious national park called Big Rock, which is located around 32 kilometers from the location where dinosaurs from the Fallen Kingdom were let wild. The family is caught in the middle of an intense struggle between an Allosaurus and a Nasutoceratops in the short.

6. Jurassic World Dominion

Jurassic World Dominion, the sixth installment in the series, takes place four years after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Dinosaurs are back in existence and coexist with people all over the world. In this final chapter of the Jurassic World saga, Dr. Ellie Sattler, Dr. Alan Grant, and Ian Malcolm, the original trio, will join Owen Grady and Claire Dearing in the battle to save humanity.
