Officially, Nikki Bella and Artem Chigvintsev are a couple. The wedding took place over the weekend in Paris, a source tells People, and the Total Bellas star made the announcement on Instagram on Monday. Bella posted a snapshot of her and the Dancing with the Stars pro’s newlywed hands with the phrase, “We said I DO.”
Nikki Bella also posted a picture of herself and her new husband, Chigvintsev, toasting in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. She posted another snapshot to her Instagram Story in which she is clutching her husband’s hand and said, “We can’t help but laugh and I hope it never stops. Mr. Chigvintsev, you have my undying affection.”
Along with the announcement that the wedding would be documented in a four-part E! special titled Nikki Bella Says I Do, Bella teased, “Can’t wait to share the full experience with you.” For Season 25 of DWTS in 2017, Bella, then 38, and Chigvintsev, then 40, were matched together and quickly became friends.
She had been engaged to John Cena at the time, but they called off their engagement and postponed their wedding until 2018. Bella and Chigvintsev revealed their relationship on Instagram in March of this year, and they got engaged in November of the same year, while on a romantic trip to France.
Bella and Chigvintsev had their baby Matteo Artemovich on July 31, 2020, less than 24 hours before Bella’s twin sister Brie welcomed her second child, a son named Buddy Dessert, with husband Daniel Bryan.
A month later, Bella thought back on the impact of seeing Chigvintsev hold their newborn child for the first time. She expressed her feelings to PEOPLE by saying, “It made me really emotional.” “To make matters even more baffling, I’m already madly in love with this individual. I’ve settled down with them, and we’re now engaged.”
Later, she elaborated, “Seeing him cry while holding his kid made me fall in love with him even more; at that moment, I could already feel the protector emerging inside him. The sincerity I saw on his face was enough to set my heart aflutter.” The reality star continued, saying she had no doubts that Chigvintsev would be “an excellent father” to Matteo.
“In other words, I said, “We need to arrange our wedding.” “I really need to put a lock on this.” However, that did the opposite and melted me completely “as she put it. “Just then, I knew he was destined to be a fantastic dad. Rarely do guys reveal such vulnerability.
As a result, it’s the most satisfying experience ever to witness someone completely let go and become overcome with emotion in the presence of something they deeply care about. Definitely a turn-on.”
After being engaged for almost a year, the couple announced their wedding date on the season 6 finale of Total Bellas in January 2021. The wedding will take place over the weekend of Thanksgiving in 2021. According to E! News, Bella made the announcement while her family rejoiced and exploded champagne bottles.
After Bella and Chigvintsev had a heart-to-heart about her postpartum depression after giving birth to their baby, they learned the news. The former WWE star said to her fiancé, “I believe it’s hard for males to genuinely comprehend postpartum.”
“The internal and external changes to our bodies, and the mental struggle we experience as mothers, especially as new mothers, in trying to make sense of those changes, may be overwhelming. Let me be frank: I felt like complete anonymity had been snatched from me.”
The professional dancer suggested, “I think you should talk to me about it if something makes you feel not joyful.” I’m sorry if I offended you. A few weeks later that same month, the couple said they had been attending couples counseling.
During an appearance on The Tamron Hall Show in November 2020, Bella remarked, “It’s mostly just to be excellent parents and understanding how to balance parent life out and also our personal relationship.” “Why? Because Artem and I don’t ever want to fight. We’re both committed to getting hitched.” In an interview with PEOPLE from earlier this year, Bella revealed the reason the two haven’t hurried to the altar.
It’s because she was a reality star for seven years: “I believe being a reality star for seven years, I took people on such a trip that they still have, like, input about my life,” she remarked. “It’s easy for me to feel the need to defend it when I read all the nasty things that have been said about it online. In my opinion, this is not a bad statement.”
Bella explained the delay in the ceremony by saying she and the Russian dancer were busy “creating a house” and raising their child.
And, “Life is incredibly stressful,” she said. “We seldom ever both of us are home at the same time. I wouldn’t go so far as to call them “important,” but there is certainly more [in life] that deserves your attention.”
