The science fiction series Severance, created by Dan Erickson and directed by Ben Stiller and Aoife McArdle, has taken the world by storm since its 2022 début on the streaming service Apple TV Plus.
Part Black Mirror and part The Office, Severance is the narrative of the biotech company Lumon Industries. The company has developed an innovative new procedure that will result in the ideal work-life equilibrium. It’s called “severance,” and it’s a procedure that separates an employee’s personal and work memories. The television series follows Mark, Helly, Irving, and Dylan as they learn to exist as essentially two different people after undergoing the procedure.
Nevertheless, Lumon appears to have ulterior motives for this endeavor, bringing us to the second season. A war between our protagonist’s “Innies” and “Outies” appears imminent, but will it actually occur? Here is everything we know about the release date, narrative, and cast of Severance season 2.
Severance Season 2 Release Date
As of May 2023, no Severance season 2 release date has been confirmed.
Don’t fret, however, The science-fiction series will undoubtedly return. The second season of Severance was approved before the first concluded. Given that the second season of Severance began filming in October 2022 and continues through May, it seems likely that the series will premiere in early 2024, or possibly even late 2023 if we’re extremely fortunate.
Director Ben Stiller has hinted that there may be additional episodes of the suspense series after the second season.
“It was a long journey to introduce Severance to television. I read Dan’s pilot for the first time more than five years ago, Stiller told Variety. It’s always been a multi-season tale, and I’m thrilled that we’ll be able to continue it. I am appreciative to our Apple TV Plus partners, who have been supportive throughout.”
Severance Season 2 Cast
As part of the renewal announcement, Apple TV Plus also revealed that the four primary office employees would return for season 2. For those unsure, that’s Mark (Adam Scott), Helly (Britt Lower), Dylan (Zach Cherry), and Irving (John Turturro).
Patricia Arquette will also reprise her character as office manager Mrs. Cobel, and Tramell Tillman will reprise his role as Seth Milchick. We do not know if Christopher Walken will reprise his role as Burt, Irving’s potential suitor, but we certainly hope so, given how their story concluded.
In November, Gwendoline Christie, Bob Balaban, Robby Benson, lafur Darri Lafsson, Merritt Wever, Stefano Carannante, John Noble, and Alia Shawkat were announced as new cast members for season 2 of Severance.

Severance Season 2 Plot
Since the first season was so mind-bending, it is difficult to predict where the second season’s narrative will go. Nevertheless, the previous episode provided some hints as to where the show may be headed.
Mark discovers at the conclusion of the first season that his presumed-deceased wife is actually very much alive. Obviously, this will continue throughout the second season of Severance, despite the fact that our main characters have a tendency to forget about their personal affairs.
We expect to see the aftermath of Helly’s calamitous performance at the party her father, the current CEO of Lumon Industries, hosted at the end of season 1. Similarly, we hope that Irving’s knowledge of Burt will be utilized in season 2, but the memory-erasing aspect makes it difficult to predict what will transpire.
Patricia Arquette, who portrays Lumon boss Harmony Cobel, teased viewers with the ominous warning, “Be scared, very scared,” in reference to the upcoming season 2 by stating, “Be scared, very scared.”
Also, we are frantic to learn what happened to Dylan. The microdata refiner’s situation appeared bleak when we last saw him, but we know he will return in season 2.
At Comic-Con 2022 in San Diego, the Severance creators revealed a few season 2 specifics to EW. Ben Stiller stated, “There are these very obvious questions that were raised at the end of season 1 that we know people are wondering about, and we feel a responsibility to make season 2 a satisfying experience for them in regards to this and the world of the show.”
Nevertheless, given the success of the first season, the actors and crew are being extremely circumspect about what they reveal. Adam Scott explained in an interview on The Tonight Show how their approach to season 2 has evolved.
“When we were creating season 1, we were like, ‘This is so weird. Is anyone going to like this, or will everyone find it stupid?’ We had no idea,” he says. “We adored everything about it, but you never know! It simply seemed so odd. And now we use secret scripts and code terms when communicating via email. It’s so secret, it’s crazy, and it feels absurd… but it’s wonderful because people want to know about it.”
