Throughout 2022, train strikes caused a great deal of disturbance, and many people are wondering if there will be any more strikes in December.

For the majority of us, the time leading up to Christmas—when many parties and social activities take place during the holiday season—is the busiest time of the year.

As a result, December is also a very busy time for travel, and train strikes would cause pandemonium throughout Britain.

Are There Train Strikes in December 2022?

There are currently no scheduled rail strikes for December. In actuality, there are currently no additional industrial rail actions scheduled for 2022 or 2023.

The RMT has stated, however, that the current issue “remains very much live” and that the union is continuing its re-ballot of members to acquire a new mandate for action, with the outcome coming on November 15.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch also said, “Our re-ballot remains life and if we have to take strike action during the next six months to obtain an agreement, we will.”

November’s Train Strikes Were Called Off

There is optimism that the most recent round of industrial action will terminate and no further strikes will be required.

On November 4, the RMT union said that the strikes scheduled for November 5, 7, and 9 had been postponed due to “the promise of an offer” from the train companies.

The train operating firms, who have up to this time made no offers of any type to the union’s members have promised to hold unconditional negotiations with RMT over Network Rail.

Initially, Network Rail had closed off conversations and consultations and intended to impose maintenance changes without consulting the RMT.

Now that they have taken a step back, they plan to continue talking under the premise that “nothing is agreed until everything is agreed.”

A period of “intense negotiations” with Network Rail and the train operating firms will now begin, the union stated.

Since the unions and the government and rail corporations are at odds about wages, job losses, and working conditions, rail workers have been on strike.

The biggest concern is salary, as the rail unions believe that salaries should rise in step with Britain’s rising cost of living.

Additionally, they are on strike in protest of job losses. To save $2 billion, The RMTclaims Network Rail intends to eliminate 2,500 maintenance positions.

The Aslef Train Drivers Union, Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA), and Unite are also organizing the strikes in addition to the National Union of Rail, Maritime, and Transport Workers (RMT), which is the primary organizer.
