For over ten years, Drake has been the biggest name in rap, and it now seems that the Canadian rap superstar is considering retiring for the first time. Lil Yachty dropped a teaser for his upcoming complete interview with Drake on Thursday (Feb. 23) titled A Gloomy Talk for the eyewear brand Future Mood.
Drake seems to discuss the possibility of hanging up his microphone during the brief tape. Drake says in the video below, “I believe I’m at the stage now where I just want to, like, I feel like we may have talked about this the other day.”
But, “I feel like I’m kind of introducing the idea of a graceful leave in my head.” The complete interview will air tomorrow (Feb. 24). Despite the possibility that Drake’s career is nearing its end, he isn’t yet exhibiting any indications of decline.
Even though it was released in November, His Her Loss, 21 Savage’s album, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and was one of the best-selling rap albums of 2022. The pair has hinted at a tour in support of the popular album.
When Drake’s “Staying Alive” collaboration with Lil Baby debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart last summer, it marked the 30th time the “Rich Flex” rapper had reached the top five, breaking The Beatles’ previous record.
The first artist to achieve 75 billion Spotify streams was Drake earlier this month. He inked a new record deal in May of last year, with estimates of its potential value at $400 million.
