R. Kelly was convicted guilty in his federal child porn case last September and was given a new sentence of 20 years in prison.

R. Kelly went to court on Thursday, February 23, to learn the outcome of his most recent sex offences case in Chicago. According to a statement made public by the US Attorney’s Office, U.S. District Judge Harry D. Leinenweber gave the disgraced singer a 20-year prison term.

Although Leinenweber determined that all but one year of the sentence would run concurrently with the singer’s current 30-year sentence for sex trafficking in New York, Kelly will only have to spend one more year of the two-decade sentence.

According to U.S. Attorney John R. Lausch, “with today’s sentence, a sexual predator is being held accountable for the years of abuse he inflicted on underage victims.” “Kelly attracted and victimised young girls using his fame and fortune, and he obstructed previous legal actions meant to put an end to his heinous behaviour.

We applaud the victims’ bravery and fortitude for coming forward, in this case, to bring Kelly’s crimes to light. The public should rest easy knowing that Kelly will never again be in a position to exploit young girls because our office will never stop fighting for justice for victims of child sexual abuse.”

According to CNN, the prosecution had originally requested a 25-year sentence that would be added on after R. Kelly had served the 30 years already.

Prosecutors stated in a document that Robert Kelly was a “serial sexual predator” who went to considerable pains to hide his abuse of Jane and other young victims. Kelly especially targeted young females over the period of many years.

Even after the jury found him guilty, Kelly still won’t take responsibility for his misdeeds, according to the statement. The 56-year-old singer’s defence, though, said that he is already in essence serving a life sentence.

His attorneys said, “There is no reason to assume that [R.] Kelly would re-offend as a geriatric in his mid-80s even in the rare event that he was to outlive his 30-year sentence.” The vast majority of Kelly’s illicit activity was undertaken more than 25 years ago.

R. Kelly was facing additional state criminal accusations in Illinois. Nevertheless, the prosecutor in Illinois dropped the charges last month since Kelly was already technically serving a life term.
