Teams from around the world who frequently use Google Meet now have a new tool at their disposal: the app can now generate captions in real time that are automatically translated.
Google has announced the launch of live translation captions at its upcoming Meet event. Captions are generated in real-time and automatically translated when the feature is enabled.
Meetings in English can be translated to any of the other languages supported by the feature at first.
For both the speaker and the audience, the advantages of having your speech translated as you deliver it are clear.
When used in all-hands meetings and training programmes, Google believes that the capability will be particularly effective for both geographically dispersed teams and educators connecting with students.
Users of Google Workspace Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, and the Teaching and Learning Upgrade will have access to the feature right now, however, it will be available to everyone soon.
On Its Blog, Google Stated:
Google Meet video calls are more global, inclusive, and productive with translated captions because they remove the language barrier to cooperation. In order to ensure that your meetings are as productive as possible, you should let your attendees digest the content in their favourite language.

GoogleMeetLive Translation: How to Use It?
For the time being, video calls in spoken English can have their captions translated. Captions should be set to English, and the translated captions should be set to a language other than English under “Translated Captions.”
- Open Google Meet on your computer.
- You can access the meeting’s settings by clicking on More choices, which can be found under the meeting’s name.
- Turn on “Captions” and select English as the language.
- Activate “Translated captions” to see the translations.
- Only meetings in Spanish, French, Portuguese, and German will be included in the beta.

Additional meeting security measures will be made possible by Google Meet for meeting hosts who use tablets or mobile phones. Like the ability to mute and end meetings for everyone simultaneously. Hosts can also coordinate the safety settings in the breakout rooms with the main meeting’s safety settings. A new admin-controlled capability allows users to bring documents, spreadsheets, and presentations from Google Drive immediately to a Google Meet session that is in progress.
However, the live translation feature is only available in beta at the moment. This means that before the feature can be turned on by default, the Meet administrator must first enrol in the beta programme.
