Roku Streaming Stick 4K Plus Unboxing and Setup

The purple packaging for Roku’s products is the only thing that hasn’t changed. Unfortunately, we received the Roku Streaming Stick 4K and had to return it before placing another purchase with a total sure that we’d receive the Plus version. We had to double-check that our order included the plus indication on the box.

Pros Cons
  • Voice Remote Pro included
  • Dolby Vision capability
  • Long-range Wi-Fi
  • No Ethernet connection
  • Pricey for the few upgraded features

Roku Streaming Stick 4K+

The majority of the setup procedure simply plug and play, reducing unnecessary time and hassles. The Roku Streaming Stick 4K Plus, like its predecessors, didn’t include an HDMI cable because it connects directly to the HDMI input on the TV.

We set up our Roku account by following the on-screen directions after pairing the remote with our Sony TV. The Roku Voice Remote Pro lets us turn the TV on or off and adjust the volume using our voice or thumb, but it doesn’t allow us to switch the input.

Even though we weren’t happy about having to use two different TV remote controls, at least we knew which one was which.

Our Experience with Roku Streaming Stick 4K Plus

The Roku Streaming Stick 4K Plus is incredibly simple to operate, as anyone unfamiliar with streaming gadgets will discover. On the left side of the main menu is a sidebar, and on the right is a glimpse of the apps, shows, and settings.

When we registered a Roku online account, we were able to personalize the Home page, where we discovered popular streaming programs like Netflix and Disney Plus. We disabled the loud clicking from the menu in the Settings menu’s Audio > Menu Volume section because we didn’t like it very much.

We looked through all of the listed apps and found Hulu, HBO Max, Apple TV, and Prime Video. We also discovered that the Roku Channel Live TV was a terrific alternative to free over-the-air television because it was both cost-free and packed with interesting channels.

By pressing the left arrow button, we opened the channel guide where we could see the duration of a program, its TV rating, and a brief summary. In conclusion, we had no issue navigating the Roku menu, and we appreciated the ability to add more streaming services by logging into our Roku online account on a computer.

On Roku, we also have access to regional channels. The user interface of a Roku device is simple and resembles cable TV, regardless of whether you have used one before or this is your first time using one.

Roku Streaming Stick 4K Plus Streaming Quality

The maximum resolution of the Roku Streaming Stick 4K Plus is 4K at 60 frames per second, and when we verified this information in the settings and watched the fourth season of “Stranger Things,” the resolution was accurate.

We had little to no trouble starting up streaming apps, and we never had to pause a show to wait for the video to finish loading or saw a buffering icon. The headphone jack for remote listening in privacy is one noticeable difference between the Plus version and the earlier one.

Although we weren’t in a position to use headphones, we liked that the remote now included personal shortcut buttons and a lost remote locator feature, which were missing from the previous model. In the end, after comparing the two models, we found that the enhanced voice remote was worth the extra money rather than the streaming stick itself.

Roku Streaming Stick 4K Plus Value

The Roku Streaming Stick deserves to be included in the top streaming devices, but unless you’re particular about watching your shows and movies with headphones, you might be better off with the less expensive 4K version.

The Roku Streaming Stick 4K Plus isn’t the best option for budget-conscious consumers because it costs $30 more than the previous model and doesn’t come with any new capabilities for the streaming device.

You can choose the more reasonably priced option over the one that won’t break the bank only for upgrades to the TV remote as compared to the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max, which is not only cost-effective but also has comparable functionality and is simple to set up.

If you’re still not convinced, read our Amazon Fire Stick review for a detailed analysis of its features, usability, and cost. When contrasting the Roku Express and the Roku Streaming Stick, the former is the better choice due to its lower pricing as well as its Ethernet port connection.

By all means, choose the 4K Plus if cost isn’t your main concern and you just want the newest Roku Streaming Stick!

Conclusion:

The streaming stick is primarily for the remote in Roku’s newest iteration. While we applaud Roku for being a user-friendly streaming device, we can’t contest that its cost is prohibitive.

Because all Roku devices offer comparable features, you’re better off with the Roku Express or the earlier model of the streaming stick.
