On Tuesday, October 11, at the International Conference Center in Abuja, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari presented national honors to a number of people, including singer Teni.

To recognize their achievements and contributions in their respective disciplines, the awards were handed to well-known individuals. Teni received a membership citation in the Order of the Niger.

President Buhari is seen handing the artist her medal in the acceptance video before they turn around for a group photo. Although Buhari was seen shaking hands with other honorees, some viewers were perplexed as to why Teni and the president didn’t.

Fans Defend Teni After Viral Video

Despite the fact that some social media users said Teni had declined a handshake, others claimed to have seen Buhari extend one.

“The president didn’t extend his hand to shake Teni, what was she meant to do?” read one tweet. You guys would still complain about disrespect if she had initially extended her hand to the president.

There was nothing but contempt in the Teni video, according to someone else who defended the artist. She didn’t try to shake hands with the president and neither did he extend a hand. Many of the viewpoints surrounding that video clip are merely projections.

Who is Teni?

Born in Lagos State in 1992, Teni is a singer-songwriter who is 29 years old. She moved here to study at the University of Georgia, and she later graduated from American InterContinental University with a degree in business administration.

Before releasing her first EP, Billionaire, in 2019, Nigerian-born record producer and songwriter Teni released her debut single, Amen, on the Magic Fingers label.

Along with receiving a national honor, Teni was also recognized with wins for best new artist at the 2018 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival and rookie of the year at the 2018 Headies Awards.
