Robert Edward Huggins is a collegiate basketball coach in the United States. Known as “Huggy Bear,” he is presently the head coach of the men’s basketball team for the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Huggins began his coaching tenure in 1977 as a graduate assistant under Gardner at West Virginia. He then spent two years as Eldon Miller’s assistant at Ohio State University. Huggins was only 27 years old in 1980 when he became the head coach at Walsh University.
In three seasons at Walsh, he compiled a 71–26 record and was recognized twice as the NAIA District 22 Coach of the Year. Huggins led the 1982–1983 Walsh squad to a perfect 30–0 regular season record and an eventual 34–1 record.
Huggins was appointed head coach of the University of Akron after serving as an assistant at the University of Central Florida during the 1983–84 season. Huggins compiled a 97–46 record and qualified for the postseason in three of his five seasons at Akron, including a 1985–86 NCAA invitation.
Bob Huggins has served as an assistant and head coach for multiple universities since 1977. In fact, he was the head coach at the University of Cincinnati from 1989 to 2005, and he was the head coach at Kansas State University from 2006-2007.
